Misiones pharmacists warn of risks from informal medication circulation
The Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Misiones has issued a warning regarding the increasing circulation of medications through informal channels, such as social media, kiosks, and supermarkets. This trend is driven by a decline in purchasing power and the difficulty families face in sustaining medical treatments.
Vania Ilchuk, president of the Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Misiones, noted that while some exchanges between individuals may be motivated by solidarity rather than profit, these unregulated transactions pose serious risks. Without professional oversight, it is impossible to guarantee essential factors such as expiration dates, proper storage, traceability, origin, and product authenticity.
The pharmaceutical sector is also experiencing a significant contraction, with sales reported to be between 20% and 30% below usual levels as users seek cheaper alternatives or postpone treatments.
