Misiones prepares tributes to General José Gervasio Artigas
The province of Misiones, Argentina, is preparing a series of commemorations to honor General José Gervasio Artigas during the Month of Artigas. The events, which include the 46th National Immigrant Festival in Oberá, aim to celebrate the historical link between the Uruguayan leader and the region.
In Santa Ana, a central ceremony will take place at the Parque Temático de la Cruz to mark the site where Artigas sought refuge in September 1820 before his exile to Paraguay. The event will include the formal presentation of a bust of Artigas, donated by Dr. Osvaldo Arén, to the Governor of Misiones, Hugo Passalacqua.
Additional activities include traditionalist gatherings at Campo San Expedito featuring musical performances by artists such as Eduardo ‘Chito’ Lemes, equestrian displays, and a historical reenactment of Artigas’s final journey toward the Paraná River.
