Misje Verde ship cited for safety breaches after fatal collision
The Norwegian‑owned cargo vessel Misje Verde collided with a Swedish leisure boat near Tjörn, Sweden, killing a mother and her daughter and seriously injuring the father and son. The ship’s Russian captain and the Swedish pilot on board have been detained and charged with negligent homicide.
Following the accident, Norway’s maritime authority carried out an unannounced inspection of Misje Verde in the port of Kvinesdal. Inspectors found violations of crew rest‑time regulations, shortcomings in work organization and onboard labour conditions, as well as technical defects that must be remedied before the vessel can sail again. Roald Misje, the shipowner’s managing director, said the company will review the inspection report and implement the required measures.
