Miskolc driver fined after three-minute parking absence

A driver in Miskolc received a parking fine after leaving their vehicle for only three minutes to run into their apartment for a vacuum cleaner. The incident has highlighted widespread misconceptions regarding parking grace periods.

Under Hungarian road traffic laws, a parking fine can be issued immediately if a vehicle is left on a paid spot without a valid ticket or mobile parking activation. While the traffic code allows for a five-minute stop if the driver remains with the vehicle, this does not grant free parking for those who exit the car to enter a shop or residence. In Miskolc, local regulations specifically require that parking fees be paid immediately upon stopping.
