Miskolc residents demand accountability over municipal spending and services
Residents of Miskolc have voiced significant criticism regarding local governance and urban management. During a recent gathering, citizens highlighted several pressing issues, including the inadequate state of summer public transportation, specifically citing the lack of air conditioning on buses.
Organizers criticized the expenditure of local representative funds on external pilgrimages rather than local infrastructure such as bicycle paths and playgrounds. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the Miskolc-Tapolca developments, where restoration costs reportedly exceeded initial estimates by 1 billion forints, while the Miskolc Bath Ltd. faces debts totaling approximately 3.6 billion forints.
Participants called for Mayor József Tóth-Szántai to fulfill his election promises or resign, demanding that decision-making power be returned to the residents. The protesters emphasized the importance of personal civic engagement over online commentary to drive change in the city.
