Misrata arms depot explosion sends missiles flying in Al-Ghayran

An explosion occurred at an arms depot in the Al-Ghayran area, south of Misrata, Libya, on Friday evening. The blast, reportedly involving a warehouse belonging to the Hurricane Brigade located near the Al-Saktawi prison, caused large flames and thick smoke to rise from the site.

Local reports and circulating footage indicate that missiles and ammunition were flying randomly throughout the surrounding area due to the intensity of the explosion. As a precautionary measure, nearby roads have been closed to traffic, and security forces have deployed to the vicinity to manage the aftermath and secure the area amid fears of further flying munitions.

Official authorities have not yet released a statement regarding the cause of the explosion or a confirmed casualty count. This incident follows a previous ammunition depot explosion in the Al-Sukairat area of Misrata in August 2025, which resulted in injuries and raised concerns regarding the proximity of military storage facilities to residential zones.
