Melissa Núñez Crowned Miss República Dominicana Universo 2026
Melissa Núñez, representing Concepción de La Vega, was crowned Miss República Dominicana Universo 2026 at the Teatro Nacional. The 28‑year‑old will represent the Dominican Republic at Miss Universe 2026 in Puerto Rico on 24 November. Her victory marks the first crown for La Vega in 14 years, since Carlina Durán in 2012. The gala featured special awards, public chants for favorite contestants, and a tribute to the contest’s 70‑year history.
Núñez, who previously competed in 2024, began an intensive preparation program after the coronation, focusing on fitness, public speaking and cultural presentation. She holds a medical degree from the Universidad Católica del Cibao, a scholarship‑funded Bachelor of Science from CUNY, and works at Bellevue Hospital supporting women in substance‑use recovery. Communicator Pamela Sued defended Núñez against social‑media criticism, emphasizing that the decision rested with the juror panel led by journalist Alicia Ortega. Pageant director Magali Febles highlighted Miss Universe’s inclusive policies, noting that marital status or motherhood no longer affect eligibility.
