Missing Czech Singer Pavlína Braunová Disappeared En Route to Train in 1988

On the morning of 6 August 1988, 23‑year‑old Pavlína Braunová left her home on Tovární Street in Strakonice to catch a nearby train. She never arrived at the station and has not been seen since.

Braunová had moved from Plzeň to Strakonice to care for her grandmother and to be closer to her fellow musicians in the folk group Minnesengři and the bluegrass ensemble Sem Tam. A talented vocalist and songwriter, she had paused her studies at the Pedagogical Faculty in Plzeň to pursue her music career, appearing on Czechoslovak television and at festivals. Colleagues remembered her extensive personal library and her distinctive voice, likening her style to that of Janis Joplin and Joan Baez.

The circumstances of her disappearance remain unresolved, and the case is still referenced in discussions of Czech cultural history.
