Missing hiker Ian Roberts found dead in California canyon

The search for 24-year-old Ian Roberts, who disappeared in Placer County’s American Canyon, ended tragically on Tuesday, August 25, when search crews located his body in a remote area.

Roberts had driven to the rural river canyon on Friday for a solo hike, likely parking at Overlook Park. After he failed to return, an extensive search operation was launched, involving land and water teams from Placer, Napa, Santa Clara, Marin, and Sacramento counties.

Investigators from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office believe Roberts, described as an experienced hiker, slipped and fell down a steep embankment. Authorities stated there is currently no evidence of foul play. His body was discovered within the Auburn State Recreation Area. The Auburn Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
