Ciudad Real authorities resolve missing person case and hit-and-run arrest

In Ciudad Real, Spain, authorities have resolved two separate incidents involving fatalities and arrests.

Francisco Javier Basterra Molina, a 72-year-old man with cognitive impairment who had been missing since Tuesday, was found dead in Villamanrique. His body was located near his vehicle, a dark grey Seat Ateca, on a local estate. The search had previously involved the Guardia Civil, aerial means, and local residents across several municipalities.

Separately, the Guardia Civil has arrested the alleged perpetrator of a hit-and-run in Malagón. The victim, a well-known local businessman, was struck near the El Santo plaza and the driver fled the scene. The victim remains in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at the Hospital General Universitario de Ciudad Real. Investigators are looking into whether the incident was intentional.
