Norma Miriam Pérez granted house arrest for life sentence in Argentina

Norma Miriam Pérez, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2014 murder of engineer Otto Federico Ferber, has been transferred from prison to her home in Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña. The judicial decision follows a year-long presentation by her defense regarding her deteriorating health.

Pérez will continue to serve her life sentence under house arrest with electronic monitoring. The original case involved the discovery of Ferber’s body in an abandoned vehicle in a rural area of Pampa Napenay, two days after he disappeared. The court previously ruled that the attack was committed with treachery, noting a relationship of trust between the victim and the convicted.

While the location of her confinement has changed, the life sentence and her criminal responsibility remain unchanged. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation recently dismissed her appeals, leaving the conviction firm in September 2024.
