Missing tourist identified during Iguazu Falls search operation

A 31‑year‑old Argentine tourist, Mariano Ariel Sierra of Cañuelas, Buenos Aires, was reported missing after entering Iguazú National Park on Saturday noon. He had been staying in a hotel in Puerto Iguazú since June 25. Park staff later discovered his personal items on the walkway to the Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), including a Motorola cellphone, his national ID, about 40,000 pesos in cash, clothing, glasses and a water‑damaged letter.

Authorities launched a coordinated rescue effort involving the Misiones police, local park rangers and the Argentine Naval Prefecture. Searches focus on the trail around the Devil’s Throat and the lower Iguazú River. As of now no trace of Sierra has been found and the circumstances remain under judicial investigation. Officials said updates will be released in the coming hours.
