Mississippi high school football player killed in shooting
JaKamryn Price, a 16-year-old junior defensive end and tight end for the Humphreys County High School football team, was shot and killed in Belzoni, Mississippi, on Friday, Aug. 21.
The shooting occurred near the 300 block of Third Street after a football scrimmage. The Belzoni Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating the incident, though no arrests or specific details regarding the circumstances have been released.
In response to the tragedy, the Humphreys County School District announced it will provide additional grief counseling and support services for students and staff. Interim Superintendent Dr. Stanley K. Ellis expressed condolences to the family and the school community.
A joint town hall meeting involving the Humphreys County Board of Supervisors and the school district is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the O. M. McNair Middle School gymnasium to address community concerns regarding violence and crime.
