Mississippi pedestrian killed in crash involving illegal alien trucker

A pedestrian was killed on Interstate 20 in Hinds County, Mississippi, after being struck by an 18-wheeler on August 20. The victim, 36-year-old Dedric Garrett, died at the scene after exiting his vehicle and standing on the interstate.

Federal authorities identified the driver as 26-year-old Sube Singh, an Indian citizen residing in the United States illegally. Singh was wearing a GPS monitor as part of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ‘alternatives to detention’ program. He had previously been taken into ICE custody in 2017 and released on bond in 2018.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated it is working with interagency partners to remove illegal alien commercial drivers from the roads, noting the danger posed by drivers who may not understand American traffic laws. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is currently conducting an active investigation into the crash; no charges have been announced.
