Mississippi River fishing: Smallmouth bass active near St. Cloud
Warm weather conditions are expected this weekend, making several fish species active in the Minnesota area. Largemouth bass are a primary target due to remaining green weeds and baitfish activity. Anglers are advised to focus on weed edges, shallow bays, and lilypads during the morning and early afternoon.
Northern pike are also active, particularly around weed beds and shallow vegetation. For those heading to the Mississippi River near St. Cloud, smallmouth bass remain the most sought-after species, alongside walleye and northern pike. Due to predicted wind gusts of up to 40 mph on Saturday, shore casting along rocky shorelines, current seams, and eddies is recommended over boating. Effective lures for shore fishing include tubes, small swimbaits, and suspending jerkbaits.
