Mississippi Senate race: Colom challenges Hyde-Smith to debates

Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Scott Colom has challenged Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith to participate in a debate and town hall meetings ahead of the November midterm election. Colom launched a “Where’s Cindy” tour, planning five town halls across Mississippi between August 31 and September 4 to allow voters to ask questions directly.

Hyde-Smith’s campaign responded by stating the Senator has been traveling the state to announce funding for various initiatives, such as aviation programs at Delta State and rural hospital collaborations. The campaign dismissed Colom’s criticisms, characterizing his platform as part of the “radical left.” Independent candidate Ty Pinkins has also called for a debate involving all candidates.

Separately, Senator Hyde-Smith highlighted her introduction of the Rural Mothers and Fathers Choice Act (S. 5364). The proposed legislation aims to establish a federal grant program to help rural and tribal communities create resource hubs. These hubs would focus on education, workforce development, childcare, healthcare access, and family support services through locally designed solutions.
