Mississippi Sonic worker sentenced to 18 years for armed robbery

Deon Luckett Jr., a 19‑year‑old former Sonic employee from Clinton, Mississippi, was sentenced to 18 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to armed robbery of a fellow Sonic manager in Ridgeland. The robbery occurred on Jan. 7, 2026, when Luckett entered the Ridgeland Sonic, pointed a gun at the manager, cut the lights and surveillance, and stole a bag containing about $50. He attempted a second robbery in the manager’s car, but the victim escaped.

Police linked Luckett to the crime after finding a DMV ticket at the scene and reviewing license‑renewal footage. A search warrant at his home recovered the clothing he wore, Sonic employee badges, and the stolen money bag. District Attorney John “Bubba” Bramlett praised the Ridgeland Police Department’s investigation and noted that Luckett used insider knowledge from his other Sonic job to target the Ridgeland location. The sentencing took place in Madison County Circuit Court on July 29, 2026.
