Mississippi State basketball eyes rebound with new roster

Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans expressed high optimism regarding his basketball roster during the SEC Tipoff event. Entering his fifth season with the program, Jans described the current group as the best set of young men he has had the privilege to coach in his 17-year career.

The Bulldogs are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2025-26 season, in which they finished 13-19 overall and missed the postseason. To improve their offensive identity and chemistry, the team is integrating new talent alongside returning leader Josh Hubbard.

Key additions include R. J. Johnson and Thomas Bassong. Johnson, a former All-Conference USA player from Kennesaw State, has reportedly lost 27 pounds to improve his mobility and quickness. His presence is expected to provide more offensive options and allow Hubbard to focus on scoring.
