Mississippi State Bulldogs eye SEC improvement in 2026

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are looking to improve their standing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for the 2026 season following two difficult years under head coach Jeff Lebby. After a 2-10 record in his first season, Lebby led the team to a 5-8 finish in his second year.

Analysts and commentators are pointing to quarterback Kamario Taylor as a primary reason for optimism. Previously used in a backup rushing role where he recorded 458 yards and eight touchdowns, Taylor is expected to take over as the starter. ESPN’s Rece Davis has identified Taylor as a “forgotten quarterback” in the SEC who is poised for a breakout performance.

Despite recent struggles, including a 1-7 conference record in the previous season, there are signs of progression. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin noted that while the program has struggled, he has seen “tremendous improvement” in the roster and the direction of the program under Lebby.
