Missoula 6th Street to close for water main replacement

The Missoula Public Works & Mobility Department has announced a temporary full closure of 6th Street in Missoula, Montana. The closure is scheduled to run from Tuesday, September 22, through Thursday, October 1.

The construction affects the stretch of 6th Street from Hazel St. S. to S. Higgins Ave. S., though S. Higgins Ave. itself will remain open. Local vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian, and delivery traffic are advised to use alternative routes, while alley access will remain available for local residents and businesses.

This closure is part of the Woodford Water Main Replacement Project. The project involves installing approximately 2,000 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe to replace aging water main infrastructure dating back to the 1940s. The upgrade aims to reduce leaks, improve system efficiency, and save energy. Missoula Water staff will notify affected properties regarding any short-term water shutoffs required during the process.
