Missoula tourism surge fuels local economy

Summer events in Missoula, Montana are generating significant tourism revenue that supports the local economy. Destination Missoula Executive Director Barbara Neilan said major attractions such as the Missoula Marathon and university stadium concerts draw out‑of‑state visitors who spend on dining, fuel and retail, noting that "about 82% of the people who come to Missoula for the first time come back again, and they continue to come back." Edgewater Missoula general manager Dan Monahan added that the influx drives hotel occupancy and helps budget planning for local businesses. The tourism tax revenue also funds community programs like the Clark Fork River Ambassadors.

These seasonal crowds, including recent concerts by Post Malone and Luke Bryan and the Western Montana Fair, are crucial for Missoula’s economic health, providing steady demand for local services and supporting future event planning.
