Missouri and Arizona Issue Extreme Heat Alerts Amid 120°F Conditions

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for southwest Missouri, warning that heat index values could reach up to 120°F. Afternoon temperatures were forecast between 92°F and 101°F across Springfield, Branson, Joplin, Lebanon and West Plains. Officials urged residents to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

An Extreme Heat Warning was also issued for portions of southwest Arizona and southeast California, with temperatures expected between 106°F and 118°F. The warning advised workers and the public to take extra precautions, schedule strenuous activities for cooler times of day, and use public cooling shelters where available. Heat‑related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke were highlighted as serious risks.
