Missouri and Colorado Thunderstorms Pose Hazards to Residents

A cluster of strong thunderstorms moved through south‑central Missouri on the evening of June 24, prompting the National Weather Service in Springfield to issue a Special Weather Statement. The storm system produced wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel‑size hail, affecting areas such as Bunker, Echo Bluff State Park, Current River State Park and the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. No Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued, and residents were advised to secure loose items and seek shelter.

Across the eastern Colorado plains, forecasters placed most of the region in a slight risk for severe storms, with an enhanced risk over the far northeast corner. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts of 70‑75 mph, large hail up to 4 inches, and a low tornado potential. A flood watch was also issued for several counties due to the chance of flash flooding from repeated storm rounds. Local National Weather Service offices warned of possible wind‑driven damage, hail impacts and brief tornadoes.
