Missouri assistant fire chief charged with murder

Jeremy Perrien, a 45-year-old assistant fire chief in Scott County, Missouri, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, felony harassment, domestic assault, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

The arrest follows a 14-month investigation into the death of his wife, 31-year-old Shelby Perrien. Perrien had initially claimed that Shelby committed suicide by shooting herself in the head with a .380 caliber handgun while they were driving back from a bar in Cape Girardeau on June 25.

Investigators say Perrien's account was contradicted by a 90-second video discovered in a hidden folder on Shelby's cellphone. The footage, recorded approximately one month before her death, allegedly shows Perrien striking, choking, and punching his wife while making multiple death threats. Authorities also cited disturbing text messages and forensic evidence that undermined Perrien's original statements to deputies.
