Missouri Attorney General investigates ActBlue over fundraising allegations

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has launched an investigation into ActBlue, a major fundraising platform used by approximately 23,000 Democratic candidates and groups. The investigation focuses on potential violations of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act, including allegations of fraud, misrepresentation of foreign contributions, and unfair practices.

The inquiry follows information forwarded by the U.S. House Committee on Administration. Investigators are examining whether ActBlue’s donation verification processes allowed for the receipt and use of funds from foreign sources, which is prohibited by federal law. Concerns have been raised regarding the use of prepaid or gift cards to conceal contributions, as well as potential fraudulent donations made under false identities.

The Attorney General’s Office is also looking into reports of whistleblower complaints, resignations, and terminations within the organization. The probe will determine if any fraudulent funds were directed to Missouri political offices, campaigns, or committees.
