Missouri Attorney General investigates Students for Justice in Palestine

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has launched an investigation into Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) regarding its fundraising and charitable solicitation activities within the state. The probe follows reports raising concerns that the organization’s fundraising representations may be deceptive and that funds could potentially reach radical Islamist terrorist groups.

The Attorney General’s Office has issued civil investigative demands (CIDs) to both the national SJP leadership and the University of Missouri chapter. These demands require the group to identify all recipients of money collected through charitable appeals in Missouri and provide records to trace transfers and vetting processes.

Hanaway stated that the office will not allow organizations to “dupe Missourians or Missouri students into unknowingly financing radical Islamic terrorism.” The investigation cites statements from SJP leadership and campus chapters that endorsed Hamas’s violence following the October 7, 2023, attacks, as well as the distribution of a “Day of Resistance” toolkit that characterized the assault as a “historic win for the Palestinian resistance.”
