Missouri Department of Transportation identifies $4.7 billion in unfunded needs

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has identified $4.7 billion in high-priority unfunded road and bridge needs across the state. This total includes $1.3 billion in annual unfunded requirements and $1 billion in multimodal needs. The needs are categorized into three tiers: Tier one includes $541 million in projects that could be completed within the current five-year Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) as funding becomes available.

MoDOT is inviting public feedback on these priorities. A meeting for Southeast Missouri is scheduled for August 20 in Poplar Bluff at the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission.

Additionally, MoDOT has announced scheduled highway maintenance and construction in Northwest Missouri for the week of August 24, 2026. Projects include resurfacing on Highway 136 and Highway 46, intersection improvements on Highway 59 and Highway 169, and ongoing resurfacing on Interstate 29. These works may involve lane reductions, width restrictions, and overnight closures.
