Missouri firefighters hold 22nd annual memorial service

Missouri firefighters gathered in Kingdom City for the 22nd annual memorial services at the Fire Fighters Memorial to honor those who died in the line of duty. The event included an informal candlelight vigil on Saturday and a formal ceremony on Sunday featuring full ceremonial protocols.

During the services, five individuals were added to the Wall of Honor: Whitewater Fire Chief Gary Glenn Moore, who died responding to a tornado; Butler County Shift Commander Jackson Montgomery Warren, who died in a vehicle crash while responding to a grass fire; Capt. Andrew Stephen Donner, who died of occupational cancer; Heavy Rigging Specialist Larry Roland Duncan; and firefighter Lee Michael Kraus.

Governor Mike Kehoe proclaimed October 4 as Fire Service Memorial Day in Missouri. As part of the commemoration, the Missouri State Capitol dome was ordered to be lit red from sunset Saturday through sunrise Monday to raise awareness for the fire service.
