Missouri highway construction and maintenance projects cause traffic warnings

The Missouri Department of Transportation and the Missouri State Highway Patrol have issued advisories regarding ongoing roadwork and construction projects across the state.

In North Missouri, MoDOT has scheduled various highway maintenance and construction projects for the week of September 7, 2026. To accommodate increased holiday traffic, most construction activity will be suspended from noon on Friday, September 4, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. Specific projects include bridge maintenance on Interstate 29 in Andrew and Atchison counties, which will involve lane restrictions and width limitations. Additionally, intersection improvements in Buchanan County are expected to continue through spring 2027.

Separately, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging motorists to plan for delays on Interstate 70 due to ongoing expansion work to add a third lane in each direction. Officials warn that game-day traffic for football fans may exacerbate delays, particularly in the Columbia area. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, expect reduced speed limits, and remain alert to changing traffic patterns in work zones.
