Missouri increases speed limits to 75 mph on select rural interstates

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has approved speed limit increases to 75 mph on several rural interstate segments. This decision follows a comprehensive evaluation of roadway conditions, traffic patterns, and safety data, authorized under a new state law.

MoDOT officials reviewed various factors, including commercial truck activity, historical crash records, terrain, and existing vehicle speeds to determine eligibility. Director Ed Hassinger stated that the goal is to move traffic more efficiently without sacrificing safety, noting that the department will continue to monitor crash data and may revert limits to 70 mph if safety issues arise.

The approved segments include:

• Interstate 29: From Exit 56 in Andrew County to near the Iowa border (64 miles). • Interstate 35: From the northern Cameron city limit to near the Iowa border (55 miles). • Interstate 49: From the Arkansas border to Exit 24 (24 miles) and from Exit 56 to south of Exit 101 in Nevada (45 miles). • Interstate 55: From the Arkansas border to mile marker 16.6 (17 miles) and from mile marker 19.8 to mile marker 64.9 (45 miles).
