Missouri investigates ActBlue over potential fundraising fraud
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has launched a state investigation into the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue, citing potential violations of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act and allegations of fundraising fraud.
The investigation follows information forwarded by the House Administration Committee regarding ActBlue’s conduct. State officials are examining whether the platform’s donation verification processes are faulty or deliberately unsound, potentially allowing money from foreign sources to be used in political campaigns. There are concerns that the use of prepaid or gift cards may be facilitating untraceable contributions from foreign donors.
The probe will specifically investigate whether ActBlue transferred funds raised through fraudulent contributions to any political office, campaign, or committee within Missouri. Hanaway stated that the investigation aims to ensure political fundraising does not become a pathway for deception or unlawful foreign influence.
