Missouri Lawmakers Confront AI Data Center Impacts and Abortion Law Overhaul

State Representative Don Mayhew (R‑124) urged Governor Mike Kehoe to call a special session of the Missouri General Assembly to address the rapid expansion of large‑scale AI data centers. Mayhew highlighted concerns about the strain on electricity, water, local roads and consumer data privacy, and suggested legislation such as a Missouri Consumer Data Bill of Rights to protect residents.

In a separate development, Jackson County Circuit Judge Jerri Zhang struck down 40 state abortion restrictions, finding them inconsistent with a voter‑approved amendment that permits abortion. The ruling voided requirements for in‑person doctor visits and supervised medication intake. Governor Kehoe criticized the decision, while Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced plans to appeal. The issue will return to voters in November as the legislature advances a ballot initiative to reverse the amendment.
