Missouri roadwork to impact Route Z, Route 34, and I-24

Major roadwork and bridge construction projects are scheduled to impact travel in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger Counties, Missouri.

Starting the week of August 24, Route Z will close near Gordonville to replace the bridges over Hubble Creek and Hubble Creek Overflow. The project, awarded to Robertson Contractors, Inc. for approximately $3.38 million, aims to install wider two-lane structures and raise the roadway to prevent flooding. The work zone will remain active 24 hours a day, with an estimated completion date of September 1, 2027. Cape Girardeau County crews are preparing alternative routes and additional signage to manage increased traffic on county roads.

Additionally, Route 34 will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction between Route 72 and County Road 302 for bridge maintenance and pavement improvements. Work is scheduled daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In McCracken County, overnight detours are planned for Interstate 24 at Exit 7 on August 15 and 16. Lumos Fiber will conduct drilling in the interstate median, requiring traffic to detour between U.S. 45/Lone Oak Road and U.S. 62/Alben Barkley Drive from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
