Missouri Tornadoes and Flooding Prompt Widespread Warnings

On June 10, multiple tornadoes touched down across Missouri, including a dangerous funnel near Brashear and another near Unionville. The storms produced hail up to two inches, wind gusts of 70 mph, and heavy rain that caused flash flooding in several counties, flooding streets in towns such as Kirksville, Queen City, Greentop and others. River levels rose, with the Missouri River at St. Charles reaching 25.2 ft and the Grand River near Sumner expected to crest at 34.7 ft.

A separate flood warning issued on June 11 by the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill identified the Chariton River near Prairie Hill as moving from moderate to major flooding. The river was forecast to crest at 21.4 ft, overtopping State Highway 129 and inundating fields and secondary roads in Macon and Chariton counties. Motorists were cautioned against driving through flooded areas.

Emergency managers highlighted the combined threat of tornadoes, flash floods, and river flooding, urging residents to heed warnings and avoid dangerous road conditions.
