Missouri wildlife activity increases with incoming cold front
An incoming cold front in Mid-Missouri is expected to trigger a significant increase in deer activity as the animals enter their peak breeding season. Following a period of unseasonably warm temperatures, the sudden drop in temperature is expected to shift deer movement patterns.
Jason Isabelle, Cervid Program Supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation, noted that the temperature drop influences daytime activity. With peak breeding approaching within the next two to three weeks, deer movement is increasingly overlapping with evening commute hours and decreasing daylight.
Authorities are advising drivers to remain hyper-vigilant, particularly on secondary highways with high speed limits, where deer may feel comfortable crossing roads.
