Misterbianco Nord interchange on Catania ring road opens July 15
On Wednesday, 15 July 2026, the new Misterbianco Nord interchange on the Tangenziale di Catania was inaugurated. The junction gives motorists direct exits toward Lineri, Poggio Lupo, Belsito, Serra and the Campanarazzu archaeological site, and eases access to the neighboring municipalities of San Pietro Clarenza, Camporotondo Etneo and Mascalucia.
The project was carried out by ANAS in cooperation with the Catania metropolitan authority and the municipality of Misterbianco. Mayor Marco Corsaro, metropolitan mayor Enrico Trantino and technical representatives attended the ceremony, citing the link as a key element of the planned Strada dell'Etna aimed at improving connections across the Etna foothills.
Local critics note that the interchange represents only the final segment of the broader road scheme, leaving other sections unfinished. They warn that traffic may shift onto the already congested San Giovanni Galermo corridor and call for impact studies and further planning to avoid additional bottlenecks.
