Misterbianco waste contract dispute triggers calls for new tender

A ruling by the Catania TAR has halted a waste management contract in Misterbianco valued at over 45 million euros. The decision follows revelations regarding the failure to disclose relevant criminal records involving an individual identified as a de facto administrator of the winning company.

Regional deputy Jose Marano has called for an urgent inspection and the launch of a new bidding process. Marano emphasized that transparency is mandatory, particularly given the economic scale of the contract and the historical context of Misterbianco, which previously faced municipal dissolution due to mafia infiltration. She argued that a mere formal review of the procedure would be insufficient to ensure legality and public trust.
