Rey Mysterio reportedly pushed for El Fiscal's WWE tournament spot

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio reportedly used his influence to secure a spot for AAA newcomer El Fiscal in the World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contender’s Tournament. El Fiscal made his RAW debut on August 17, 2026, facing AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix in the first round. Despite targeting Fenix’s knee, El Fiscal was defeated after Fenix executed a superkick and a Mexican Muscle Buster.

In other tournament action, Dragon Lee advanced by defeating El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. The tournament winner is scheduled to challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 episode of RAW in Mexico City. Fenix is set to face Dragon Lee in the next round.

On the NXT brand, EK Prosper won a Fatal 4-Way match against Romeo Moreno, Tristan Angels, and La Parka to become the number one contender for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. Additionally, Lexis King retained the WWE Speed Championship against Lucien Price. Cruz Montana expressed intentions to pursue the NXT Championship and restore the brand's prestige amid an ongoing rivalry with Zilla Fatu.
