Mistral and Mozilla partner to power Firefox AI assistant

Mistral and Mozilla have announced a partnership to integrate Mistral’s artificial intelligence models into Firefox’s new AI browsing assistant, known as Smart Window (currently in beta). The collaboration aims to provide users with privacy, control, and choice while utilizing open-weight models.

Smart Window is designed to assist users with complex searches, help them recall previously viewed information, and source data based on active browser tabs. Mistral will initially power the feature for users in France and North America, with expansion to the United Kingdom and Germany expected later this year.

The partnership emphasizes a shared commitment to open-source principles. Mistral is focusing on fine-tuning models for regional languages, dialects, and cultural contexts to ensure AI responses are nuanced and native to local users worldwide.
