Mistrial declared in Merced DUI crash case involving death of Good Samaritan

A jury has declared a mistrial in the case against Yessica Partida, a 24-year-old woman accused of driving under the influence and killing Abraham Bustos Guzman. The incident occurred on Highway 99 when Guzman, a 28-year-old police academy student, stopped to assist the driver of an SUV that had struck a guardrail.

Following a three-day trial, the jury reached a deadlock. Family members expressed significant distress over the outcome, noting that jurors indicated a conviction might be considered too harsh due to the defendant's age. The victim's family is now preparing for a second trial as they seek justice for Guzman.
