Misty Gomez and husband arrested in connection with California educator murder

Misty Gomez and her husband, Antonio Garcia, have been booked into Fresno County Jail following their arrest by U.S. Marshals in Mexico. The couple is accused of the murder of Geoff Bernardi, a career technical education teacher with the Clovis Unified School District in California.

Following the identification of Gomez as a person of interest, she fled to Mexico with her two daughters, 9-year-old Skye Mason and 12-year-old Castiel Hernandez. The children, who were reported missing by their families in April, are currently in the custody of the Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) in Michoacan, Mexico. The girls' families have expressed desperation to bring them home, noting that Gomez took the children without notifying their fathers.

Bernardi’s mother stated that Gomez had been dating the educator at the time of his death and was unaware that Gomez was married. Gomez and Garcia were extradited to the United States last week and have been transferred to the Fresno downtown jail.
