MİT Chief Kalın conducts diplomatic mission to Afghanistan and Pakistan

Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Chief İbrahim Kalın conducted a series of strategic visits to Afghanistan and Pakistan to facilitate regional stability. His itinerary included meetings in Kabul and Kandahar, followed by high-level discussions in Islamabad.

In Afghanistan, Kalın engaged with key Taliban figures, including the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and the Ministers of Defense and Interior. These discussions focused on security, intelligence cooperation, and combating transnational threats such as ISIS-K, drug trafficking, and irregular migration. By visiting Kandahar, the Taliban’s ideological and decision-making center, the mission sought to establish direct institutional channels.

The diplomatic efforts aim to de-escalate chronic tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, particularly regarding cross-border terrorism and sovereignty disputes. Working in coordination with Qatar, Turkey is utilizing ‘intelligence diplomacy’ to act as a proactive mediator, connecting security frameworks across the Middle East, South Asia, and Central Asia.
