MIT researchers develop technique to integrate molecules into electronic chips
Researchers led by Sarah Spector at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a new industrial-scale manufacturing technique to integrate delicate molecules into electronic chips.
As the race for electronic miniaturization progresses, molecules are being explored as fundamental building blocks for advanced computing, optics, and quantum technology due to their precise chemical properties. However, traditional semiconductor manufacturing processes often damage these fragile components.
The new method involves pre-fabricating device components using standard processes and then introducing the molecules. The team utilizes nanoscale surface forces, specifically capillary forces, to mechanically transform the device so that the molecular components self-assemble without sustaining damage.
