Mitch Garver triggers assignment clause in Yankees contract

Veteran catcher Mitch Garver has triggered an assignment clause, also known as an upward mobility clause, in his minor-league contract with the New York Yankees. Following a series against the Boston Red Sox, the move initiates a specific MLB procedural window.

Under the terms of the clause, the other 29 MLB teams have until Monday afternoon to notify the Yankees if they are willing to place Garver on their active roster. If at least one team expresses interest, the Yankees have 48 hours to either add Garver to their own active roster or trade him to the interested club. If no teams request him, Garver will remain in the Yankees’ farm system at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Garver, a former Silver Slugger and 2023 World Series champion with the Texas Rangers, has struggled offensively during his recent stint in Triple-A, hitting .179. Interested teams would likely be evaluating his veteran experience and track record rather than his current 2026 statistics.
