While his office stated on August 6 that the 84-year-old senator was discharged to recover at home and remains engaged with Senate business, there have been no recent public appearances or direct video updates from McConnell.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has criticized the lack of transparency regarding the senator's health. Beshear has demanded that McConnell ‘provide proof of your capacity to serve, or resign,’ arguing that the senator has a responsibility to communicate directly with his constituents. The governor also directed criticism toward Senate Majority Leader John Thune, calling for accountability and questioning whether McConnell can resume his normal schedule when the Senate reconvenes in September.
