Mitch McConnell remains engaged from hospital as he plans Senate return

U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, 84, was admitted to a hospital on Sunday for an undisclosed medical issue. A spokesperson said he is receiving excellent care and is “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell spoke with Senate Majority Leader John Thune and GOP Whip John Barrasso, indicating he wants to be back on the Capitol Hill floor this week. Both leaders said he sounded “good” and was following the schedule of upcoming votes. The office declined to provide details about the cause of his hospitalization.

The Kentucky Republican, who announced he will not seek re‑election, continues to monitor legislation and federal funding for Kentucky while he recovers.
