Neasden waste facility fire causes major London transport disruption
A major fire broke out at a waste transfer facility in Neasden, north-west London, near Wembley Stadium, on Friday morning. The blaze, located on Hannah Close, involved an industrial unit measuring approximately 100m by 150m and was managed by LondonEnergy.
The London Fire Brigade deployed around 125 firefighters and 20 fire engines to the scene. Specialist equipment, including drone teams, high-volume pumps, and 32-metre ladders, was also utilized. Thick plumes of black smoke were visible from central London and across the capital.
The incident caused significant disruption to public transport. Transport for London suspended the entire Metropolitan line, while the Jubilee line faced partial closures between Willesden Green and Wembley Park. National Rail services to and from London Marylebone also experienced delays and cancellations.
Local residents were advised to stay indoors with doors and windows closed due to heavy smoke. While some eyewitnesses reported hearing an explosion, the London Fire Brigade has not confirmed this as the cause. A nearby Amazon warehouse was evacuated as a precaution, though it was not directly affected by the flames. No injuries have been reported.
