Mitchell Robinson joins Boston Celtics after leaving New York Knicks

Mitchell Robinson has transitioned to the Boston Celtics following an eight-season tenure with the New York Knicks. After helping New York secure its first NBA championship since 1973, Robinson signed a three-year, $47.4 million contract with Boston in July.

The move was largely driven by the Knicks' financial constraints. Following their championship run, New York ownership aimed to avoid the NBA's second luxury-tax apron to maintain roster flexibility. Meanwhile, the Celtics sought frontcourt depth and rim protection to bolster their rotation.

In his first matchup against his former team at TD Garden, Robinson addressed his absence from the Knicks' recent banner-raising ceremony. When asked if his decision to skip the event was deliberate, Robinson stated, “I didn't have cable,” noting he lacked the necessary channels on his phone following a trip to Detroit.
