Mithat Sinan Bolak detained at Istanbul Airport

Mithat Sinan Bolak, son of former TÜSİAD President Ümit Boyner, was detained at Istanbul Airport on September 24. The detention follows an arrest warrant issued because Bolak failed to attend court hearings and could not be reached by authorities.

Bolak, who previously served as the Planning and Organization Manager at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) subsidiary Kültür A. Ş., faces allegations of bribery and money laundering. The indictment claims that fraudulent contracts were used to receive bribes in exchange for İBB advertising permits during his tenure.

Prior to his detention, Bolak stated that he was living abroad and that communication difficulties had prevented authorities from reaching him. He maintained that he was not fleeing the judicial process and had intended to return to Turkey to provide his testimony.
