MitID users advised on security protocols for lost devices and fraud
Users of the Danish digital ID system MitID are advised to take specific actions depending on the nature of a security incident. There is a critical distinction between blocking a specific MitID application on a device and deactivating the entire MitID identity.
If a mobile phone, tablet, or hardware token is lost or stolen, users can choose to block only the MitID application on that specific device. This allows the user to continue using MitID on other registered devices. Simply deleting the app from a lost device is insufficient; the specific device must be blocked through the proper channels.
However, if there is suspicion of active fraud—such as approving a request not initiated by the user, sharing login credentials with a potential scammer, or noticing unrecognized activity—the entire MitID must be blocked. A full block prevents anyone from using the identity. Users can manage these settings via MitID.dk or by contacting MitID Support. Additionally, users are encouraged to review their recent activity on their MitID profile to check for unauthorized actions.
